Study To Show Yourself
I am a teacher! I believe in studying! God said My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. We need pay attention - it is important. Check this out.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) " Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Religion says this means: Study so you can parade yourself in front of God and He will then approve of you because of your hard work and performance. Now - He can approve of you - He couldn't before you studied. No - No: it is declaring:
You study to show yourself, that you are already approved unto God. You will then know that you are a workman that needs not to be ashamed because you will know who you are and whose you are and just what the finished works of Jesus are all about. You will in turn rightly divide the Word of Truth. You will divide the Covenants - the Old from the New. You will see the Old Covenant is now obsolete (Heb 8:13).
You will understand that Jesus was under the Old Covenant when He walked on the earth and taught to prepare the people for His sacrifice that would be paid in full. That is why He said "It Is Finished" as He alone fulfilled the law to redeem us (Gal 4:4-5). You study to show yourself! Studying does not give you the approval of God as such, like we have taught. It will, in truth, open to you the great Gospel of Grace and you will find out that Grace is Jesus Himself (Titus 2:11) Study: be diligent in this because it is not has always been taught - (be earnest - make effort - you have to swim up stream on this one because it goes against all the religious grain). Study to show you, yourself! We need to know! God already knows that He has approved you when you accepted the sacrifice of the blood of Jesus. He translated you out of darkness into the Kingdom of His Beloved Son and gave eternal salvation (John 3:16).
You cannot rightly divide the Word without the revelation of how much God loves you and has already approved of you. Spurgeon well said it, "Jesus died for unworthy men to make them worth it." We have so tried to make ourselves what God has already made us! "For the joy that was set before Him..." (Heb 12:2) He could already see what His sacrifice would do for us and it pleased the Father.
God knows that He has forgiven you, past present and future sins and is no longer imputing sin to you - do you (Romans 4:7-8)? He has enabled us to rule and reign in this life and has given abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness - do you (Rom 5:17)? God knows He is not mad at you - do you (Isaiah 54:9-10)? God knows He loves you as much as He loves Jesus - do you (John 17:23). Think about what you really do need to know, these are important.
And this is only the tip of the iceberg. We find in this awesome Word that it is all about Jesus and what He has done for us and made available to all for just the receiving. We cannot walk in what we do not know - hence - study.
